Michelle Alexander: The Drug War & The New Jim Crow

Ms. Alexander argues that it is NOT an exaggeration to say that the "drug war" was a conscious, sonspicuous policy designed to destabilize the Black community in the aftermath of their achievement of Civil Rights, and to disempower Blacks, and to undermine their social and political structures by imprisoning Black men, thereby forming the basis for excluding them from the USer mainstream...

Sir Barry, AFBP: ALWAYS Much LESS Than Meets the Eye

As with EVERYTHING "Barack," the mortgage abuse settlement announced last week, touted to help "underwater homeowners" escape the toils of Bankstah-induced foreclosures, is far less helpful to citizens than either the announced remedies or the extended consequences would lead one to believe.

America's First Black President ("AFBP") appears to be pulling a new version of the old "shuck-'n'-jive," with the lives and futures of citizens inveigled into home-loans they had NO CHANCE of ever repaying, and against whose ability to repay the loans the bankstahs were betting, short... Cenk/TYT has the story:

Ed Shultz: A Really STOOPIT Liberal...

Ed Schultz' rise to prominence on the "Left" is one of the great con-jobs of the last 5 years.
He was originally a LIMBOT-wannabe, an aspiring fascist mouthpiece. He wanted to be the fat, flapping fuckturd to whom the drooling drones of the Right flocked for instructions on how and what to think.
Then he allegedly underwent an epiphany, via his wife whom he calls a liberal.
But what really happened was that there ALREADY WAS a rightwing Nazi gass-bag on the air, and they didn't NEED another one, so he changed his stripes and started aiming ro become the "limbot of the Left."
But of course, one of the GOOD things about the left (pre-Barry, anyway) was that WE don't (didn't) need or especially WANT some pompous, spouting blubberbutt telling us what and/or how to think.
But he soldiered on, and got on 'liberal' radio (The Jones Bros Network, first), and thence (unaccountably) MSNBC.
He's dumber than a fucking post, and NOT any KIND of progressive. But: He drools Dim Blue.

Thomas Franks on the Pitiful and Painful Plight of the Pathetic Billionaires

This appears to me to be the "money" graf in a recent interview by Truthout with author Thomas Franks about his new book, "Pity the Billionaire: The Hard-Times Swindle and the Unlikely Comeback of the Right." I've inserted breaks to facilitate reading & to emphasize the points:
I don't know about crossing the Rubicon, but it's clear to me that we have missed what will probably prove to be our generation's greatest opportunity to reverse the direction of history. In 2008 and 09, Wall Street was in such high odor - so hated by the American public - that we could easily have chosen a New Deal type of direction. The conservative economic policies of the last forty years were in ruins around us.

But Obama wasn't willing to point this out. The opportunity was squandered, but "squandered" isn't a strong enough word.

Barack Obama had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take the financial oligarchy apart - not just for electoral reasons, but because that was what democracy requires - and despite the right's perception of him as Robespierre reincarnated, he didn't do it.

Yes, he may win re-election this fall, but at best he will be remembered as another Clinton: a guy who triangulated and got the best deals he could while facing down a right-wing nation.

That the nation isn't right wing, and that it would have followed him had he led with boldness, is something that people like you and I will get to meditate on sourly for the rest of our lives.
Any list of so-and-so-many of brave Sir barry's "accomplishments" ONLY exists to distract from and/or try to paper over the massiveness of his failure to act aggressively to reform the system. He COULD have done it--if he'd been ANYBODY but Barack Hussein Obama...So he didn't.

"President Barack Obama today nominated a JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) executive to the five-member board of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
Jeremiah O. Norton, 34, who is an executive director in the bank’s JPMorgan Securities unit, previously served as a policy adviser in the U.S. Treasury Department during the administration of President George W. Bush. Before that, he was an aide to a Republican congressman, Edward Royce of California."
