Did Somebody Say "Pig Ignorant"?

It'd be hard to top the perfectly modulated tone incredulous disgust captured by Balloon Juice:
Pig Ignorant Religious Nuts

by John Cole

The American Family Association has really topped themselves:
Let Your “Light” Shine For Christ This Christmas Season!
Looking for an effective way to express your Christian faith this Christmas season to honor our Lord Jesus? Now you can…. with the “Original Christmas Cross” yard decoration.

Yes, thanks to the AFA, Christians everywhere can have their very own burning cross in their front yard for a mere $81.85, plus shipping and handling. Oddly enough, this does not seem to be a big seller in African American communities.

In all seriousness, I guess you can’t expect people who reject evolution, who think the world was created 6,000 years ago, and who think Adam and Eve roamed the world with dinosaurs to know anything about basic American history, can you?

Priceless!

As one of millions who, through no fault of their own, were born in the year of the boar, I'd like you to choose a different symbol for your ignorance analogy. Choose an something with low intelligence, little redeeming value,
etc. My candidate for ignorance icon wouldn't be an animal at all, because animals possess an innate sense of dignity and nobility.
I'd pick the puncturevine, aka. the goathead.
(Tribulus terrestris ) It's a pernicious weed, which spreads like wildfire: it has abundant small seeds with dense heads: it has absolutely no value what so ever: it has a nasty little prick: it ruins whatever land it grows on.
It only flourishes when conditions are right: it chokes out natives:
it is difficult to control, and it
can lay dormant for years. All of these sound to me like the sort of person who would line up to by a cross-burning kit.

Foxtails are the worst.

Goatheads are nasty fuckers, no doubt. But those goddam foxtails burrow through the dogs' fur and into the skin, or into their ears. I heard somewhere some fucking vet from california actually imported fox-tails here to promote bidness...

Or, it could be that someone has no knowlege of history beyond our shores--like the history of Scotland, where the Burning Cross ariginated, as an alrm beacon when the norse would raid the churches and monastries. I would call the christians to defend their holy places from the pagan raiders.

The #@&%*! Klan took what was a symbol of Scottish history and pride and ruined it for all time.

Of course Racial bigotry is only one kind of bigotry--ther's always religious bigotry, especially when evidenced by an ignorance of what the disrespected group actually believes, or the diversity existing within a group targeted for hate.

"religious bigotry" is only meaningful as a concept between religions.

I despise all religions as forms of dangerous, delusional superstition.
